Among all the actors involved in the X-Men franchise, it is undoubtedly Hugh Jackman who stands out the most. He is the only actor to have appeared in every installment of the X-Men series up to the present day, outside of his cameo in “Deadpool”.
With the recent release of the trailer for Logan, which also marks Hugh Jackman’s final portrayal of Wolverine, here are 10 fascinating facts you may not know about this iconic actor:
1. Hugh Jackman was a last-minute replacement for the role of Wolverine in the 2000 “X-Men” film. Initially, Dougray Scott was cast to play Wolverine, but he could not participate due to filming for “Mission: Impossible 2”.
2. Jackman’s most successful role in his career was recommended to him by his friend Russell Crowe. After Crowe declined the lead role in “X-Men”, he directed director Bryan Singer to Jackman.
3. Jackman underwent intense physical training to prepare for the role of Wolverine and was able to bench press nearly 150 kg at his peak.
4. Although Wolverine is only 1.60 m tall in the comics, Jackman stands at a towering 1.90 m. Therefore, filmmakers often had to shoot Jackman from specific angles, and other actors often wore height-boosting shoes to make him appear shorter.
5. To prepare for the Wolverine role, Jackman studied performances by Clint Eastwood in “Dirty Harry” and Mel Gibson in “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.”
6. While Wolverine is known for his “love” for cigars, Jackman is a non-smoker and dislikes smoking in films.
7. Jackman had to maintain a strict diet and had incredibly sharp eyesight when not wearing contact lenses.
8. He infamously injured his arm while filming “Van Helsing” in 2004.
9. Jackman met his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, while co-starring in the Australian TV show “Corelli”, where he was 13 years younger than her. The couple has two adopted children, Ava Eliot Jackman and Oscar Maximillian Jackman.
