Previously, we have heard the name Joy Boy many times in the One Piece storyline. However, it wasn’t until Chapter 1115 that his silhouette was finally revealed.
When Vegapunk revealed the truths related to the Ancient Kingdom, the shadow of Joy Boy appeared, a figure who seemed to be opposing the alliance of the 20 nations (later known as the World Government).
1. Joy Boy’s Transformation into the Zoan-type Nika, Similar to Luffy
The key point regarding Joy Boy’s silhouette in One Piece Chapter 1115 is that it closely resembles Luffy in his Gear 5 form. This indicates that Joy Boy in the past reached a state similar to the Zoan-type Nika.
Previously, in Chapter 1114, Vegapunk had confirmed that Joy Boy’s Zoan-type fruit was the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, akin to Luffy. In this chapter, Joy Boy is portrayed as having fought valiantly, pulling or extending his body parts in a manner reminiscent of the tale of the Sun God Nika.
800 years after Joy Boy’s departure, a user of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, emerged, and that person is none other than Monkey D. Luffy.
2. Joy Boy’s Battle Against the Alliance of 20 Nations (and Ultimately Losing)
As strongly noted in Point 1, although Joy Boy fought bravely against the alliance of 20 nations, which later became the World Government, he ultimately lost. The circumstances surrounding this defeat offer intriguing insights into the ancient lore of the One Piece universe.
What does this imply?
In the past, Joy Boy possessed immense power akin to Luffy’s, yet in the end, he still faced defeat. Imu (possibly even the Celestial Dragons) was once a member of the alliance that fought against Joy Boy.
Therefore, even with the extraordinary power of Nika, Luffy may not guarantee victory against Joy Boy’s formidable foes.
Nonetheless, we currently do not know the precise details of Joy Boy’s defeat. Did he lose due to being overpowered? Or was it a betrayal, a failure of allies?
