Last week, Disney officially announced the sequel to the animated 3D film “Wreck-It Ralph,” set to be released in 2018, featuring the return of voice actors John C. Reilly (Ralph) and Sarah Silverman (Vanellope). The biggest change in this sequel, according to the production company, is the leap from the arcade game setting to the vast world of the internet.
The original film debuted in 2012 as a major “hit” in terms of box office revenue, providing viewers with unique experiences revolving around the world of retro video games, featuring many cameos from iconic characters from “Street Fighter 2,” “Q*bert,” “Pac-Man,” and “Dance Dance Revolution.”
With this new information, fans around the globe are undoubtedly hoping for even more iconic cameos in the sequel. Below are seven gaming characters that should make an appearance in the upcoming film:
Sonic the Hedgehog
We briefly catch a glimpse of Sonic in the first film; however, it certainly wasn’t enough for die-hard fans. Wouldn’t it be fun if there were a racing showdown between Sonic and Vanellope on the racetrack?
Mario
Reportedly, director Rich Moore is currently negotiating with Nintendo to possibly use the character designs of the famous plumber in the 2018 film.
Solid Snake (from “Metal Gear Solid”)
In the first film, there was a brief reference to “Metal Gear Solid” when Ralph sneaks through an area and sees a “!” sign along with the alert sound. It would be incredible if Solid Snake appeared in the sequel and guided Ralph on completing a stealth mission.
Samus Aran (from “Metroid”)
Samus Aran, the famous bounty hunter, could make an appearance as the bodyguard of Sergeant Calhoun, bringing some intense action scenes to the audience.
Master Chief (from “Halo”)
While Samus is the bodyguard of Calhoun, Master Chief could be the ultimate ally or even a rival of Calhoun, helping her navigate the dangers of the gaming universe.
Kratos (from “God of War”)
Kratos’ appearance in a Disney film would be quite unexpected due to the character’s violent nature. But if he were to appear, it would be interesting to see how Ralph and Vanellope interact with such a fierce character.
Link (from “Legend of Zelda”)
With the film’s adventuring content, Link could appear as a wandering hero, a support character aiding Ralph and Vanellope on their quest.
