Released in 2000, X-Men laid the groundwork for the development of the superhero film genre, transforming it into one of the most commercially successful types of movies in today’s cinema landscape. When discussing the success of the X-Men series, it’s impossible to overlook the significant role played by Hugh Jackman as the character Wolverine, a role that has become closely associated with him over the years, captivating audiences worldwide.
According to recent announcements, the film Wolverine 3 (yet to have an official title) will be the last film featuring actor Hugh Jackman. This film is expected to serve as a heartfelt farewell from the actor to audiences, as well as to the character he has portrayed for nearly 16 years.
It is known that Wolverine 3 will draw inspiration from several comic book storylines, primarily focusing on the “Old Man Logan” arc. The film is set to receive an R-Rating (restricted for viewers due to violent content) and is anticipated to present a grittier, darker depiction of the character Logan that audiences have come to know over the years.
Previously, there have been many rumors among the fan community that Hugh Jackman might soon retire from portraying Wolverine due to his age, though no one knows exactly when this decision will take place. As fans are aware, aside from his superhuman abilities, Wolverine is also significantly older than the average person, and while Wolverine himself may not age (much), Hugh Jackman certainly does. Therefore, it’s inevitable that the actor will have to bid farewell to the role that has defined his illustrious career.
Jackman’s farewell has been communicated to fans through a short clip he filmed while shooting scenes for Wolverine 3 in New Mexico.
Reportedly, Wolverine 3 will take place in a dystopian future where Wolverine has aged and is on a journey with Professor X (Patrick Stewart) to find and confront a formidable new enemy. This duo will receive support from a female character known as X-23, who is recognized as a female version of Wolverine.
Wolverine 3 is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
