Suicide Squad is undoubtedly one of the most unique superhero films of the year from DC, captivating not only the audience’s attention with its main characters, including a multitude of villains but also generating significant interest in the backstories of characters like Joker and Harley Quinn. Along with the trailer images of Suicide Squad, enthusiastic fans have created quite a few theories regarding the plot, particularly revolving around Joker being one of the former Robins who fought against Batman.
To clarify, let’s revisit this theory. If you have seen the poster featuring Joker (as portrayed by Jared Leto), you might recall the bizarre tattoos adorning this character. Positioned on his left and right arms are two circular tattoos resembling the word “Damned.” If we compare this to the image of Robin’s suit that appeared in Batman V Superman, these tattoos match the designs on the suit. Thus, it is quite conceivable that Joker in this Suicide Squad film is one of the former Robins who, after experiencing “demonic transformation,” becomes Joker.
This version of Robin is identified as Jason Todd, a character in the comics who was brutally beaten and killed by the Joker. If we take the above scenario into account, the storyline may unfold similarly to how Joker tortured Jason Todd, leading to his death. Following that, Batman avenged him by killing the Joker, while Jason Todd, if he survived this ordeal, might transform into Joker’s new incarnation, more treacherous and cunning.
Recently, during an interaction with dedicated fans, director David Ayer shared some insights regarding this theory, but only a fraction of it. This director seemed surprised to hear the suggestion that Joker is indeed Robin – Jason Todd.
“Joker is Jason Todd? No, that’s not possible. It’s not true.”
Thus, we have confirmed that Joker’s appearance in Suicide Squad is not Jason Todd, but alongside that, the fan theories remain compelling.
