Recently, Variety announced that the male superstar “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson has officially dethroned Robert Downey Jr. to become the highest-paid actor in the world. The Rock earned $64.5 million from June 2015 to June 2016, significantly more than what he made the previous year, and he has consistently outperformed Robert Downey Jr., who had topped the list for three years in a row. His earnings primarily come from the Fast & Furious franchise, San Andreas, HBO’s Ballers series, and the upcoming Baywatch movie slated for release next year.

Matt Damon also had a successful year with $55 million, thanks to the blockbuster success of The Martian. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp earned $53 million and $48 million, respectively.

In the list, there are 18 male actors who earn over $20 million, while only 4 female actors do.
