Game of Thrones, the critically acclaimed long-running series, has always kept its audience eagerly waiting for the next episodes after each season finale. Recently, the production team of Game of Thrones delivered some rather disappointing news to its devoted fans: the release of Season 7 will be delayed due to… weather conditions.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners of Game of Thrones, announced that the filming for the new season would be “pushed back a bit” as the production team wants to wait for the weather in the filming locations to become cooler and more conducive during the winter months, where they will be shooting some of the most crucial scenes.
Even in the warmer filming locations, they have to wait until the weather cools down before they can begin shooting.
This delay has left many fans wondering why the production team must wait until the coldest season to start filming. In Season 7, the events of Game of Thrones will primarily unfold during the winter season, a winter that fans have been anticipating since Season 1 but have yet to see depicted on screen.
Moreover, the delay in filming also means that the release date for Game of Thrones will be pushed back as well. According to the original schedule, Game of Thrones was expected to premiere its new season around March and April of 2017, but now it may start several weeks or even a few months later depending on weather conditions.
This is certainly something that no true Game of Thrones fan wishes for, but given the depth of the scenes, a more realistic portrayal of a winter season is something we must accept in order to make the show even more captivating than it already is.
