Have you ever wondered whether a film project would ever hit the big screen like Pacific Rim 2? The first installment of this movie was released in 2013. Initially, the sequel was scheduled to premiere on April 7, 2017, but it was subsequently postponed to August 4, 2017. However, after that, the project faced indefinite delays due to some production issues.
Finally, the highly anticipated film about giant robots battling monstrous creatures has officially announced its release date on February 23, 2018.
Legendary Pictures recently shared this news on Deadline, stating that the studio has decided to push the release of Pacific Rim 2 from the summer blockbuster season to February, a period generally considered a quieter month for the film industry. This change in release timing could allow the film to avoid competition with major titles.
According to the schedule, if it premieres in February 2018, Pacific Rim 2 will only have to compete with Fifty Shades Free, Larrikins, and Black Panther, which are relatively “lighter” competitors compared to typical summer blockbuster projects.
If you didn’t know, February is always a transitional period for film studios to focus their attention on projects set to release in summer. Therefore, releasing blockbuster films during this timeframe could significantly reduce competition and increase the chances of success, as evidenced by the unexpected success of Deadpool in recent times.
