In Yu-Gi-Oh, there is a card modeled after Trunks
Fans of both Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh are sure to notice the similarities between the card “Tyler the Great Warrior” and the image of Trunks (in the original translation, often referred to as Calich). Both feature short, spiky hair and a muscular build compared to other characters depicted in manga. The truth is that this card design is inspired by Trunks from Dragon Ball.
The story begins with a 14-year-old anime fan named Tyler, who suffers from liver cancer and undergoes surgery to remove a large portion of his liver, yet has managed to survive miraculously. This young boy has inspired the creation of a card in Yu-Gi-Oh that is modeled after Dragon Ball characters, and the creators allowed this to be realized.
The storyline of Trunks is influenced by Terminator – Judgment Day
During the time when author Akira Toriyama was creating Dragon Ball, the Terminator movie franchise was quite popular, so the author took inspiration from it to craft a manga storyline based on the main plot of Terminator.
You can easily notice the similarities in the storyline where both universes face destruction and are challenged by robots or beings with the ability to manipulate time, making efforts to alter the course of history.
Trunks is the last character to use the time machine
One of the most remarkable inventions that fans of Dragon Ball admire is the time machine. It was first used by Raditz when he invaded Earth, and later became a significant plot point.
The last time this machine appears is when Trunks has a battle against Frieza’s army. He becomes the final person to utilize this powerful time machine in the Dragon Ball storyline.
The sword Trunks always carries is from Tapion
Die-hard fans of Dragon Ball are very familiar with the legendary sword that Trunks always carries. There was even a separate film dedicated to Trunks’ life when the future world was destroyed, and this story reveals the origin of the sword that Trunks wields.
In the movie “Wrath of the Dragon,” the character Tapion appears, who is a warrior wielding a sword along with magical instruments to fight. This character can be seen as a different version of Link from the Legend of Zelda appearing in Dragon Ball. After his demise, he passes his sword to Trunks.
Trunks has never had a tail since childhood
Speaking of those with Saiyan blood, we cannot forget the significant tail characteristic of their race. And as we know, despite being half-Saiyan, Trunks does not possess a tail.
Evidence for this is that Gohan, Trunks’ father, also had a tail when he was young and caused a lot of trouble during his transformations. However, Trunks does not have this tail and is a character who can be considered more civilized, like Vegeta, ensuring that no one else would dare to cut off Trunks’ tail, although it still symbolizes the Saiyan race’s strength. According to the author, it seems that he inadvertently… “forgot” this detail.
The name Trunks is derived from a type of… shorts
To name the characters in Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama has often drawn inspiration from everyday items around him. Naturally, the name Trunks is no exception, as it is derived from a type of… shorts.
