Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been rated as a remarkable comeback for the legendary Star Wars series, with its trailer garnering an impressive 88 million views within the first 24 hours of release. Surprisingly, during the same period last year, the trailer for Disney’s live-action film Beauty and the Beast, featuring Emma Watson as Belle, attracted an even higher 91.8 million views upon its debut.
However, if we consider the view count for the first day of release, both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Beauty and the Beast could not surpass the record set by Fifty Shades Darker, the second installment of the controversial film franchise Fifty Shades of Grey.
According to reports, within just 24 hours of its release, the trailer for Fifty Shades Darker received an astonishing 112 million views, driven by its provocative content that sparked significant interest among viewers.
Notably, the film’s trailer has achieved 39 million views from the North American region alone, indicating that audiences there are particularly interested in this contentious topic. The international market contributed a further 75 million views, with 2 million views resulting from social media shares, primarily through Facebook.
The first film, Fifty Shades of Grey, managed to earn 55 million USD at the North American box office but grossed an impressive total of 570 million USD worldwide. However, critics argue that the content of the first installment did not align with the “shock” and “sex” themes that audiences were led to expect, making it challenging for the sequel to achieve the anticipated success.
Fifty Shades Darker is scheduled to be released on February 9, 2018.
