20th Century Fox has announced the project for Deadpool 2 starting early this year after the tremendous success of the superhero (essentially an anti-hero) character during the Valentine movie season. Despite being limited to R-Rated viewing due to age restrictions, Deadpool has continuously broken box office records in North America for several consecutive weeks.
Although there were rumors that director Tim Miller would not continue to direct Deadpool 2, the opinions of this renowned director are still considered to have a significant impact on the subsequent films regarding the mercenary character Deadpool.
Recently, The Wrap reported that lead actor Ryan Reynolds had some disagreements regarding the creative direction of Deadpool’s sequel with director Miller, and many fans believe this was the reason why Tim Miller did not want to continue directing the second installment.
Furthermore, not only did Reynolds express his opinions regarding the character portrayals, but he also participated in selecting actors for this new film.
Regarding Miller, he indicated that he wanted Deadpool 2 to allow audiences to explore different facets of this character within the X-Men universe, while Reynolds preferred to maintain the humorous and emotional elements established in the first film.
The turning point in this disagreement arose when Reynolds and Miller debated who should be cast as Cable in Deadpool 2. Miller believed the role should go to a male actor previously favored by fans, such as Kyle Chandler, while Reynolds had a different idea in mind. Ultimately, the studio decided to back Reynolds, leading Miller to step down and hand over directing responsibilities to someone else.
Deadpool 2 is set to be released in 2018, and at that time, we will be eager to discover who will be chosen, whether audiences will support Reynolds’ direction or if they will prefer the creative vision of the new director after Tim Miller.
