Sabo, introduced as a 10-year-old child, was born into the noble family of the Outlook clan. Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his birth, he held a deep desire to escape his harsh reality. This is why it’s not surprising that Sabo shares a close bond with Ace and Luffy, two other boys who also long for freedom across the vast seas.
Unable to endure the toxic environment of his family any longer, Sabo decided to leave, paving a path separate from his two brothers. Unfortunately, as he was embarking on his journey, Sabo’s ship accidentally collided with a Sea Kings’ offspring, a powerful creature of the sea. This encounter resulted in a devastating shipwreck.
Initially presumed dead after the disaster, Sabo was actually rescued by Monkey D. Dragon – Luffy’s father. However, during this time, Sabo lost his memories and did not regain them until he heard the news of Ace’s death, which jolted him back to reality. Determined, Sabo set out to reclaim his brother’s legacy and acquired the Mera Mera no Mi – the powerful Devil Fruit that Ace once possessed, to honor his friend’s indomitable spirit.

From the moment Sabo reappeared, his power became a major topic of discussion among the One Piece fan community. Following this significant event, it became apparent that Sabo had not only survived but had also ascended to the position of Chief of Staff within the Revolutionary Army. There are even theories suggesting that Sabo’s strength is on par with that of an Emperor.
Is this ‘kicking’ powerful enough?
It is well-known that when trained under the Revolutionary Army, Sabo honed his combat techniques. However, he became so powerful that his mentor, Hack, could no longer keep up with him. Sabo chose to follow Dragon to continue his training. The culmination of this training allowed Sabo to overpower Burgess of the Blackbeard Pirates with ease.
Any One Piece fan would have to agree: the power of Dragon’s Revolutionary Army is certainly not to be underestimated. Many fans speculate that the strength of its leader is on par with the Emperors. Thus, the potential of Dragon and Sabo is likely to possess incredible abilities that have yet to be revealed.

Furthermore, after obtaining the Mera Mera no Mi, Sabo’s strength has grown exponentially. It is evidenced that he can now hold his own against Fujitora while still mastering the new power. Although he has yet to face a “life-or-death” battle, his ability to challenge an Admiral signifies great potential.

Returning to the initial theory, can we truly compare Sabo’s power to that of an Emperor? The answer is likely no. The One Piece narrative has always established that the strength of an Emperor is beyond that of any ordinary individual. The most iconic battle was during the Marineford War, where even the legendary Whitebeard was forced to exert all his strength against the Admirals.
The overwhelming power of Whitebeard
Whitebeard’s immense strength allowed onlookers to truly understand the difference between an Emperor and an ordinary individual. It is important to note that the abilities of an Emperor like Whitebeard surpassed those of a standard pirate. Therefore, comparing Sabo to an Emperor is a considerable leap.
To accurately assess, Sabo’s highest potential may only equate to an average Admiral. Although he did manage to land a blow on Fujitora in one chapter, the idea of “squeezing” an Admiral would be a different story altogether.
Could Sabo really take revenge for Ace?
It is indeed a pity that we cannot witness the “fusion” of the three brothers – Ace, Sabo, and Luffy – in the upcoming battles. Nevertheless, Oda has also been considerate of fans by highlighting Ace through Sabo. This connection serves to remind us of Ace’s fiery spirit, which has been passed down to Sabo. Thus, Ace’s will will live on, and these three brothers will continue to “make waves” together.
