One of the most significant highlights of 2017 was undoubtedly the debut of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, marking his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was officially titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, offering a completely unique narrative compared to the previous Spider-Man adaptations developed by Sony.
According to the latest announcement from Marvel, fans of the superhero “friendly neighborhood” will not only be able to see their beloved character on the big screen but can also follow Spider-Man in a new comic series created by Marvel to promote the upcoming movie.
Currently, Amazon has started selling the comic book titled Spider-Man: Homecoming Prelude, set to be released on June 20, 2017, with a total of 112 pages. While details about the storyline of Spider-Man: Homecoming Prelude have not been fully revealed, it is certain that it will serve as a prelude to the events in Spider-Man: Homecoming, helping audiences gain a clearer understanding of the film’s content.
This is not the first time Marvel has released a comic tie-in related to its film universe. Each superhero film adaptation typically has at least one dedicated comic book that includes details not found in the movies. Examples include Iron Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Ant-Man.
With a new film debuting featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, it is understandable that Marvel wants to create a prequel comic (which details events that happen before the film) with two main objectives: to help audiences better understand the background of Spider-Man: Homecoming and simultaneously promote the film’s branding.
The storyline of Spider-Man: Homecoming is expected to continue from the events in Captain America: Civil War, where our hero, Peter Parker, after assisting Tony Stark in the battle against Captain America, receives substantial financial support from this wealthy mentor, enabling him to acquire new high-tech gear, though he still must navigate the complexities of his high school life.
During this time, Peter Parker continues to battle crime, but unfortunately, he encounters a series of dangerous criminals such as Vulture, Tinkerer, and Shocker, which complicates the already tumultuous life of this teenage superhero.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to be released on July 7, 2017.
