In the midst of various controversial adaptations, the series “Fifty Shades” continues to capture the attention of audiences. Following the success of the first installment, the sequel titled Fifty Shades Darker is scheduled for release in early 2017. Recently, this film has officially received an R rating from the MPAA due to its “intense sexual content”. Fans of the “Fifty Shades” series are currently very excited about this news.
According to Comingsoon, “Fifty Shades Darker” has been rated R due to its sexual content and “hot” scenes. Compared to the first film, the sequel is expected to be even more explicit. The MPAA has indicated that “Fifty Shades of Grey” received its R rating for sexual content and language, as well as some unusual behavior.
Despite this, some “die-hard” fans of the series believe that the R rating is still too lenient compared to the original intent of “Fifty Shades”. Until now, there have been those who hope that the adaptation will be released in theaters with a higher age restriction. For example, while “Fifty Shades of Grey” was rated R in the U.S., it only received a PG-12 rating in France.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson will reprise their roles in “Fifty Shades Darker” and the third installment – “Fifty Shades Freed”. In the films, Dornan plays the lead role of Christian Grey while Dakota Johnson takes on the role of Anastasia Steele – an ordinary girl who finds herself in a passionate relationship with the wealthy man. Both of these films are set to be released during the Valentine seasons of 2017 and 2018. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will also collaborate with E.L. James to contribute to the production of “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed”.
Eric Johnson, Bella Heathcote, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Tyler Hoechlin, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden, Robin Lee, Fay Masterson, and Hugh Dancy will continue to participate in “Fifty Shades Darker”. However, the directorial position previously held by Sam Taylor-Johnson has now been passed to James Foley due to unresolved conflicts between the director and author E.L. James. Foley will also reprise this role in the third installment – “Fifty Shades Freed”. The screenplay for both sequels has been penned by Niall Leonard – the husband of author E.L. James.
Regarding the content, “Fifty Shades Darker” revolves around the relationship between Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). Due to the haunting memories from their previous affair, Ana decides to break up with Christian and starts a new job at a publishing house in Seattle. However, the feelings she has for the wealthy man continue to persist strongly. When Christian proposes a new arrangement, Ana finds it hard to refuse and becomes entangled in his “dark world”. From here, Ana begins to uncover the secrets of the man she loves.
As Christian struggles with his “inner demons”, Ana must confront her feelings of jealousy when she encounters a woman from Christian’s past. At the same time, she also makes a crucial decision about her own future. With the first film grossing $570 million worldwide, “Fifty Shades Darker” aims to surpass this record.
