Previously, when actress Scarlet Johansson was cast in the live-action film adaptation of the popular anime Ghost In The Shell, many fans were quite vocal about their discontent, suggesting that Johansson’s portrayal did not fit the character of Kusanagi at all. However, the costume design and hairstyle for the character were not too dissimilar from the original protagonist of Kusanagi.
The costume and hairstyle have been criticized by fans for not resembling Kusanagi from Ghost In The Shell.
However, new images captured from the filming set of Ghost In The Shell have reignited fan debates regarding Johansson’s character portrayal.
It is noteworthy that these new images were captured by a dedicated fan at the Pak Hoi filming location in Hong Kong. Observing the images, one might argue that Scarlett Johansson’s costume and hairstyle bear a closer resemblance to Kusanagi from the anime adaptation. Furthermore, the hairstyle has been slightly adjusted to reflect the character’s iconic look more closely.
The character Batou, played by actor Pilou Asbæk, has also appeared in the film set. Fans can compare the similarities between these two characters in the image below.
In addition to the main characters appearing on set, several minor characters with quite eccentric fashion styles can also be seen. The film crew has worked hard to recreate the aesthetic of the anime version of Ghost In The Shell.
The live-action adaptation of Ghost In The Shell is set to be completed in 2017.
