Cosplay can transform individuals into unique characters, often requiring the use of special contact lenses that come in various designs and colors. However, it is essential for cosplayers to exercise caution when using these lenses to avoid potential accidents, as highlighted by a recent incident involving a young man.
According to Houston Press, a cosplayer named Johnny Hybrid suffered an injury to one of his eyes due to improper contact lens usage.
Specifically, he was preparing for the Space City Con event last weekend and had just applied a special contact lens worth over $300. Before changing costumes, he had cleaned his hands and used a saline solution to rinse his lenses.
However, at the same time, his girlfriend, Yami, was nearby using hair gel and inadvertently got some on the outside of the saline bottle. When Johnny reached for the saline solution, his hand accidentally got some of the hair gel on the contact lens.
Unbeknownst to him, Johnny put the lens on and immediately felt the stickiness from the hair gel, which caused him to experience intense pain. During the chaos, he accidentally jammed the contact lens into his eye, resulting in further damage.
“I unintentionally put on the lens that had hair gel on it, and it immediately caused my eye to hurt, feeling incredibly painful. In a moment of panic, I pulled the lens off, and part of my eye got stuck to it,” he recounted.
Immediately following the incident, he was rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors confirmed that he might lose sight in one eye due to the injury.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all cosplayers to be careful when using contact lenses and to always check their surroundings to avoid such accidents, especially when others are using products like hair gel nearby.
