The game currently making waves in this conversation is Astro Bot – one of the titles that fans of Black Myth: Wukong will likely find particularly challenging to accept.
There is a reason for this because not long ago, at The Game Awards 2024, Black Myth: Wukong failed to claim the top prize, Game of the Year, from Astro Bot. Therefore, it’s understandable that fans of Black Myth: Wukong might not be too pleased with Astro Bot’s success.

Despite the challenges faced, Astro Bot continues to thrive and is making significant advancements in achieving remarkable milestones.
At the Game Awards 2024 last month, Astro Bot received numerous accolades and concluded the awards ceremony on a high note by winning the Game of the Year award. Many believe this victory marks a significant achievement for Astro Bot, yet some still regard it as a low point in the gaming landscape. Evidence of this can be seen in the statistics: Astro Bot has amassed up to 104 awards in 2024, making it the platform game with the highest number of accolades in history.

Thus, Astro Bot has outperformed previous record holders, including It Takes Two, which won 16 awards, and may continue to thrive in the future. However, there are still numerous competitors that Astro Bot will face in the coming years, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and The Last of Us Part 2, which have collectively won 288 and 326 awards respectively, while Elden Ring has completely dominated with 435 awards.

However, we cannot overlook the fact that Astro Bot has been an incredible success story for both Team Asobi and Sony. In terms of sales performance, Astro Bot has surpassed 1.5 million copies sold as of November 2024. More importantly, it has managed to do this with a modest budget and a small studio consisting of only about 70 employees.
