This year, the highly anticipated continuation of the blockbuster film series Transformers, titled Transformers: The Last Knight, is set to officially premiere. In the past week, although the identities of the main cast have been revealed, eager fans still feel somewhat unsatisfied as there has yet to be any confirmation regarding the return of Optimus Prime. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long; the film crew has officially announced that… Megatron will be back.
However, this time, our version of Megatron will have a completely different appearance compared to previous films. If it weren’t for the accompanying Instagram caption from director Michael Bay, many dedicated fans might have guessed that this character is indeed Megatron.
While details about Megatron’s role have been kept under wraps, we still cannot confirm whether he will be a lead villain in this installment, but it is certain that he’s been upgraded to be much stronger than in previous films.
Looking back at the history of the Transformers series since the first installment was released in 2007, Megatron has played an incredibly significant role as the leader of the Decepticons, aiming to seize the Allspark. In the film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, he allied with The Fallen to defeat Optimus Prime, only to be defeated and destroyed in Transformers: Dark of the Moon (which was quite a tragic and… messy end). By the time of Transformers: Age of Extinction, Megatron’s essence had been transferred into Galvatron, a robotic form created by human hands.
In the upcoming film Transformers: The Last Knight, we still do not know whether this character will appear under the name Megatron or Galvatron. However, it is certain that he will play a crucial role against the Autobot forces.
Transformers: The Last Knight is set to be completed and released on June 23, 2017.
