“Super Ability” in League of Legends Faces Overhaul
Recently, the new season of League of Legends officially launched with version 25.1, introducing numerous significant changes to the gameplay. One of the notable updates is the “super ability” known as Power Chain, which enhances the power of Tier 2 Boots. Moreover, when a player acquires the Power Chain, they can upgrade to Tier 3 Boots with only a small cost and a particularly strong effect.

Since the introduction of this “super ability” in League of Legends, it has sparked a wave of controversy within the community. It’s important to note that the conditions to achieve this “super ability” (which has 2 out of 3 objectives including Combat Victory, Enemy Defeat, and achieving the main objective first) have already raised significant concerns. The combination with the effectiveness from the Power Chain could potentially lead to overwhelming victories.

As a result, many opinions in the League of Legends community suggest that this “super ability” needs to be adjusted, even to the extent of being reworked to reduce its overwhelming power in-game. “I believe the Power Chain should be made into a target that both teams can achieve. Locking this ability to only one team gives an unfair advantage to players who can’t upgrade to Tier 3 Boots, making it too overpowering.”
“Even if the game doesn’t have Power Chain, several skirmishes still wouldn’t revert to being balanced because there wouldn’t be Tier 3 Boots. Therefore, it would be fairer if this ability were adjusted for both teams to achieve, for instance, by reducing the objectives needed to achieve it,” shared a player.

League of Legends Developers Acknowledge Feedback but Remain “Minimal”
It seems that the League of Legends design team has received feedback from players and in the latest patch, they only made minor adjustments to the Power Chain. However, these changes are only aimed at slightly reducing the effectiveness related to Tier 3 Boots, with some changes still retaining significant impact. For example, the Spellthief’s Shoes only have their effectiveness reduced from 19% to 10% and the effectiveness of other items reduced from 10% to 8%.

Clearly, the adjustments mentioned above are “too minimal” and do not resolve the issue of the overwhelming power that the Power Chain currently possesses. It’s essential to recognize that League of Legends has had a very strong “snowball” effect in previous seasons (especially in ranked gameplay), heavily influencing the dynamics of gameplay. Combined with the “super ability” of Power Chain, a typical match of League of Legends could be decided merely 15-20 minutes in, leading to a significant imbalance in strategy. There’s a possibility that Riot Games seriously needs to consider re-evaluating the impact of the Power Chain and adjust it as necessary.
