Dragon Ball Super has officially announced its return with an entirely new storyline, and fans are getting their first glimpse of what’s to come. The manga Dragon Ball Super has been on indefinite hiatus since the creator, Akira Toriyama, passed away on March 1, 2024, and this year will conclude without any updates since the end of the series.
This news has left fans of the Dragon Ball Super manga feeling bittersweet, as the return will be much longer than previously anticipated, yet it’s also a loss that there will be no updates before this manga makes its comeback.
When Will Dragon Ball Super Return?
In one of the significant announcements from Shueisha during the Jump Festa 2025 week, it was revealed that Dragon Ball Super will return after its hiatus, starting from February next year.
Dragon Ball Super will make its comeback with a completely new one-shot manga. Shueisha has provided the first glimpse of what fans can expect from the upcoming return of the Dragon Ball Super series.

The first glimpse of this one-shot story focuses on Trunks and Goten, reminiscent of the Super Hero segment featured in the manga before the hiatus. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero served as the final installment of the manga before Toriyama’s passing, making it difficult to evaluate how much the creator’s influence impacts this new story.

This image also provides a fresh perspective, showcasing colorful artwork of the series’ heroes, Clean God, who has inspired Trunks and Goten with their superhero traits depicted in the manga. This opens many opportunities for exploration while Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are currently training on Beerus’ planet with Broly. Goten and Trunks will have to protect Earth while their father and brother are away.
What’s Next for Dragon Ball Super?
Dragon Ball Super has some intense plot developments ahead as Black Frieza remains the most powerful warrior in the universe. Following the conclusion of the Super Hero arc, Frieza returns as the mightiest being, while Goku and Vegeta continue their rigorous training to match this formidable opponent.

Black Frieza is sure to be a part of any upcoming Dragon Ball Super storyline. This new form of the villain is one of the last images that Toriyama supervised before his passing, and it has the potential to greatly impact the events that unfold in the future.
Frieza revealed that he unlocked the Black Frieza form after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for ten years. Upon his appearance, Black Frieza immediately took down both Goku and Vegeta with ease, following the events of the Granolah the Survivor saga.
With the new insights we’ve gained about the Demon Realm through Dragon Ball Daima, Dragon Ball Super has plenty of untapped potential to explore upon its return in the future.
