Eiichiro Oda Explains Why Shipping on the Grand Line is Challenging in the Live-Action Adaptation of One Piece Season 2
Oda responded: “In this context, the Grand Line is the most unpredictable ocean. We need to create suspense for the audience. The unpredictability is why there are so many hardships, and of course, many treasure hunters. This needs to be a very intense season with new elements introduced, so it definitely brings more challenges.”
Godoy also expressed his inspiration for Luffy, stating, and Oda responded: “Luffy is the embodiment of freedom for me. When you grow up and join a company, you can’t always do what you want. Joining society often means losing your freedom.”
“Luffy has the heart of a child, so he can do whatever he wants. This is a key point that connects him to those who work hard in society and to those who are just about to step into society, making Luffy incredibly appealing.”

The Netflix adaptation of One Piece is set to return in 2025, with Iñaki Godoy reprising his role as Luffy, alongside new cast members such as Joe Manganiello, Katey Sagal, David Dastmalchian, Charithra Chandran, Lera Abova, Mark Harelik, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Brendan Sean Murray, Callum Kerr, and Camrus Johnson.
