One Piece Has Endured Through Many Eras, So There Will Certainly Be Loss and Sacrifice Throughout the Journey.
In recent years, the manga has witnessed numerous deaths. From characters being taken down through emotional struggles to significant deaths that occur directly in the storyline. Recently, One Piece has particularly intensified with the deaths in the story, and a recent update has confirmed a theory about the character Guernika’s demise in Wano.

This update was provided through the Vivre Card, recently released in Japan. The Vivre Card contains complete information about various characters in One Piece, including Shanks and Queen. The latest information also includes details about Cipher Pol and a note confirming that Guernika was killed by Kaido.
So who died in the Wano Country arc?
According to the Vivre Cards, Guernika was killed by Kaido while he was trying to survive after infiltrating the Cipher Pol 0 to gather information on Kaido’s plans.
If you recall, this infiltrator was tasked with gathering intel on Luffy during the battle against Kaido, as the World Government sought to eliminate the threat posed by the Beast Pirates.

At one point, when Luffy and Kaido were about to unleash their final attacks in the climactic battle, Guernika intended to use Tekkai to intervene and break up the fight. However, Luffy’s resolve allowed him to hold back just long enough for the final clash against Kaido’s devastating attack. This moment led to Guernika’s unfortunate fate, as he had to make a critical decision.
Fortunately for Luffy, he did not perish, and the resolve of the Beast Pirates led to Luffy’s survival and the awakening of his Nika form.
However, not all deaths in the Wano arc have been treated equally. Many characters have met tragic ends in this arc, even before the climactic battle on Onigashima began.
We witnessed Yasuie’s death, which was a poignant moment, especially when he was publicly executed. From Ashura to Izo and Orochi, many characters have died before the conclusion of the Wano saga.
Some characters also faced near-death experiences, such as Zoro. The swordsman suffered severe injuries during his fight with Kaido, yet he managed to rise once again to battle King. At that moment, the cursed sword Enma forced Zoro to confront a life-threatening challenge, and he overcame it.
Is Wano the most brutal arc in One Piece?
Since the conclusion of the Wano arc, fans have been trying to quantify the exact number of deaths, and now we know Guernika is on that list. Amid the chaos in the aftermath and the dramatic battles during the Onigashima raid, many individuals were lost in this arc.
The scale of this arc is vast, leading us to understand that many significant characters fell during the battle between the Kozuki Alliance and Kaido and Big Mom. It is undeniable that the conflict in Wano was incredibly deadly and resulted in substantial casualties.
Although there may be some who have passed away, the essence of One Piece remains strong. From the Marineford War to the tragic fate of the Ohara Island, there have been numerous casualties that are hard to forget. While the manga maintains a focus on its main characters, the indirect deaths in One Piece are not uncommon.
