Eiichiro Oda: The Key to the Success of Netflix’s Live-Action Adaptation of “One Piece”
The live-action adaptation of One Piece is currently in the process of creating its second season, which will cover iconic locations such as Drum Island, Loguetown, and Little Garden.
With Oda returning in his role as executive producer for the second season of the live-action “One Piece,” the mangaka has released a new statement. This note not only analyzes the ongoing production efforts but also highlights several artistic elements that might be new. Eiichiro has taken to his own pen to illustrate the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” in a fresh visual form.

When sharing the latest news, Oda once again emphasized his deep affection for the project: “Yes, the One Piece live-action is currently under production, with filming going quite smoothly. The storyline will include Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island! Just think about what’s to come. Imagine how it will look! Even though they are talented actors and experienced directors, I still feel a deep connection to this project, which made Matt, the showrunner, have to shout ‘AAARRGH!’ and Netflix had to respond with ‘No!’ while Tomorrow Studios had to say ‘What the heck?’ when they were brainstorming ideas. All of this shows how all of us are deeply invested in bringing this beloved series to life!”
Oda’s role is crucial in translating the original work’s events into the live-action format. The creator of “One Piece” often emphasizes that many decisions require his approval before they proceed. In this new statement, Eiichiro reiterated his artistic skills while providing fresh perspectives on Inaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Taz Skylar, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Mackenyu.

Along with familiar faces, the live-action series has recently confirmed the casting of Katey Sagal and Mark Harelik as Doctor Kureha and Doctor Hiriluk, respectively, with these new characters set to appear in the next installment.
As of now, the release date for season two of the One Piece live-action adaptation has not been officially confirmed.
With production just beginning this summer, it seems certain that we will not see Luffy and his crew on screen this year. Hopefully, Netflix will unveil the main characters in 2025.
