HK01 Reports on Chau Tinh Tri’s Continuous Struggles in His Career
The Hong Kong film king, Chau Tinh Tri, has been facing numerous challenges in his projects over the past few years. He has aimed to implement several ambitious projects, such as Mermaid 2, The Legend of the Female Basketball Player, and films inspired by Journey to the West. However, many of these projects have been delayed or cannot yet begin filming.
According to Chinese media, Chau Tinh Tri has previously encountered difficulties with funding, even having to halt the project Mermaid 1. It was reported that the Hong Kong star collaborated with the leading entertainment company in China, Huayi Brothers, to bring Mermaid 1 to fruition. However, during filming, Chau Tinh Tri had significant disagreements with Huayi Brothers, ultimately leading the company to withdraw its investment. The result was that Mermaid 1 faced shortages and could potentially face indefinite delays.

A Surprising Ally: Qin Qifeng’s Investment
One of Chau Tinh Tri’s unexpected allies is Qin Qifeng, who has expressed interest in investing in the projects and hopes to land a role in one of Chau’s films. Chau Tinh Tri designed a character for Qin Qifeng to play, who is often in conflict with the male lead.
The outcome was that Mermaid 1, upon its release, unexpectedly grossed 3.3 billion RMB. Qin Qifeng not only had a chance to meet his idol but also succeeded with his own investment.

According to Sohu, major stars like Chau Tinh Tri often have contracts with investors. Often, these contracts require strict adherence to deadlines to receive additional bonuses.
However, Chau Tinh Tri’s working style is often meticulous, requiring high standards from actors and crew. As a result, several male actors may only be able to produce a project after many years and often face losses, needing to compensate the investors.
