Recently, Marvel Studios released the first trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again,” one of the highly anticipated releases for 2025. Alongside the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, this trailer has drawn attention with a set of 5 distinct costumes for Daredevil. It’s notable that at least 5 different versions of Daredevil will appear in the 18 episodes of the upcoming season.

Two of the 5 costumes shown have previously appeared on screen. First, the dark suit (second from the left) resembles the version from the Defenders Saga on Netflix. This could serve as a connecting detail between the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the previous Daredevil series on Netflix, continuing a storyline that was left hanging in Season 3.
Matt Murdock also previously donned the suit in a cameo appearance in the first episode of the Echo series, during a confrontation involving Daredevil and Maya Lopez, as well as Kingpin’s henchman in a deserted warehouse. This scene takes place against the backdrop of the “Blip” event (Thanos’s snap) in the MCU, confirming that Matt managed to escape the devastation caused by Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.” During the 5 years of the Blip, Matt continued to operate as Daredevil, opening up a whole new chapter filled with numerous stories that Marvel Studios could explore in the upcoming series.
Meanwhile, the yellow suit (third from the left) is the version featured in the “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” series. This suit draws inspiration from the original Daredevil #1, which was published in 1964. The yellow suit holds special significance for Matt Murdock as it was crafted from the fabric of his father’s boxing robe, “Battling” Jack Murdock. In the MCU, Matt’s yellow costume was designed by Luke Jacobson, a character who serves as the tailor for Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk.

The white suit is a completely new version designed specifically for Matt Murdock, referencing the “replacing” version of Daredevil in the comic series of the same name by Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder, published in 2023. In this comic, Matt had to abandon his superhero career and becomes a priest after being overwhelmed by a sense of guilt. However, upon realizing that New York still needs the protection and assistance of Daredevil, Matt decides to “return to the fight.” He even seeks help from Doctor Strange to confront the inner demons that haunt him. This storyline resonates with many elements shown in the first trailer of “Daredevil: Born Again.”
The new suit also creates a completely fresh palette for Daredevil, a version of “the guardian angel” that is not overshadowed by darkness. This represents a significant change for Matt Murdock, who has always struggled with his dual existence.
The black suit (fourth from the left) draws inspiration from the “Shadowland” comic published in 2010. This comic revolves around Matt’s attempt to reclaim New York City after he becomes the leader of The Hand. Here, he builds a dark throne called Shadowland, where he plays the role of a ruthless prison warden, with elements of danger and treachery. However, it turns out that all of Matt’s actions were manipulated by external forces, and he himself was also controlled by the Beast of The Hand, resulting in one of the darkest versions of Daredevil.

The Hand appeared in the Defenders Saga on Netflix but was abandoned after the collapse of Midland Circle. However, with 18 episodes in the first season, “Daredevil: Born Again” will likely revisit this villainous organization, showcasing Matt Murdock’s darker side on screen. Regardless of the direction taken, it is precisely because of those dark actions that Matt has resolved to abandon his superhero career, as highlighted in the trailer.
The final costume is a dark red suit that keeps viewers on edge with the haunting images presented in the trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again.” This suit brings Matt Murdock closer to the classic comic book design, although it still lacks the iconic “DD” emblem that is traditionally displayed on his chest. Moreover, the brighter red color also suggests that the upcoming series will retain some humorous elements typical of the MCU, even as the trailer hints at a darker narrative that won’t fall short of Netflix’s productions.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is set to premiere on March 4 of this year.
