Why Do Akatsuki Members Have Different Nail Colors in Naruto?

In the Naruto series, the reason behind the different nail colors of Akatsuki members has never been officially explained. Unlike the manga, where each Akatsuki member wears a ring with unique symbols, in the anime, they all have distinct nail polish colors. For instance, Itachi has purple nails, Pain has dark red, Deidara has black, and Hidan has green, with each member showcasing a unique color.
1. Nail Polish as a Part of Akatsuki’s “Uniform”
The first impression is that the nail polish on the fingers of Akatsuki members forms a part of their “uniform.” What does this “uniform” symbolize? It resembles a cloak that conceals the identity of an individual, much like the cloaks worn by Akatsuki members that shroud their identities. The polish may also signify their affiliation and status within the organization.
Though the various “uniforms” all have meanings, the significance and purpose behind the nail polish still remain ambiguous.
2. Different Nail Colors Help Distinguish Akatsuki Members
Unlike the manga, the nail polish colors of Akatsuki members in the anime differ for each individual. The variety in colors serves to help identify members, much like the rings that denote their positions on the fingers of Gedo Mazo.
Even though there are more than ten Akatsuki members, and they may all be quite unique, it is still possible to distinguish them based on their nail colors, which adds a layer of complexity to their identities.
3. Identifying Akatsuki Members in Incomplete States
This theory relates back to the previous point, suggesting that the different nail colors serve as visual markers for the members. If an Akatsuki member is defeated and their condition is not entirely preserved, their nail polish could still be recognized by other members if their hand or fingers remain intact.
Even though Obito and Nagato seem to not care much about their nail polish today, the discussion around it has certainly gained traction among fans.
