Arcane Jinx: A “Disaster” According to Riot
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Season 2 of the Arcane series has been viewed as a masterpiece, as it tells deep, meaningful stories with intense conflicts and struggles for power. The emotional aspects of the characters are depicted in an incredibly outstanding way. Additionally, the nine episodes of Arcane Season 2 have been rated a perfect 9 on IMDb, further highlighting the quality of this series.
However, looking back at League of Legends, there are many products inspired by Arcane that are currently causing controversy within the community. Yesterday (December 2), we reported Riot receiving significant backlash for the rework of Viktor’s visuals and interface. Today (December 3), when the Arcane Jinx skin was officially revealed on the PBE server, it continued to generate significant backlash from the League of Legends community.
The primary reason for the backlash stems from the fact that players are forced to participate in a “gacha” system with a mere 0.5% chance of receiving Arcane Jinx on each roll. To ensure obtaining this skin (or what is colloquially referred to as “insurance”), players would need to roll at least 80 times at a cost of 32,000 RP. This amount of RP translates to about $250 (approximately 6 million VND), and in Vietnam, players would have to buy five packages of 1 million VND to even acquire enough RP for this skin.
What’s even more concerning is that the “overpriced” cost mentioned above does not even reflect the quality of the Arcane Jinx skin, which has been criticized as lacking significant uniqueness compared to its predecessors. This skin features only three distinct forms, with two being 99% similar. Moreover, all the forms of Arcane Jinx do not have unique animations or specific emotes. Additionally, the visual effects of this skin do not change according to Jinx’s transformation. It is noted that many players feel disappointed as Arcane Jinx does not have the Pentakill effect despite being a skin that could have easily incorporated such a feature.
Community Outrage Over Riot’s Low-Quality Arcane Products
As soon as the images of the Arcane Jinx skin were revealed, it sparked significant outrage within the League of Legends community. It’s worth noting that Jinx is a well-loved character in both League of Legends and the Arcane series, making the skin’s high-profile “Overpowered” status particularly disappointing. Furthermore, Riot has previously introduced this skin as a “super exclusive” item, which suggests it should have been of very high quality. However, when the community’s expectations were not met, it became evident that Riot’s response to the backlash has been quite dismissive.
As mentioned above, Arcane is an exceptional series that captures essential entertainment qualities with high production value. However, Riot Games’ introduction of low-quality products like the Arcane Jinx skin or the rework of Viktor has tarnished this excellence. There is hope that Riot will soon have a plan to rectify these “flawed” products before their official release.
