While some anime fans find the character of Zenitsu reminiscent of typical day-to-day tropes, others have expressed a strong dislike for him. Many viewers have even claimed that Zenitsu’s “hilarity” has ruined their experience watching the highly anticipated fourth season of Demon Slayer.
“It’s really annoying. I don’t understand why they focus so much on him,” commented one viewer after watching the first episode of season four.
Another user shared a similar sentiment, stating: “I can’t disagree more. I completely enjoyed the episodes until he appeared and shattered my mood. I even decided to fast forward through every scene with him because it felt unbearable.”
While many fans struggled to reconcile with Zenitsu’s presence in the latest season, others are openly defending the character.
Explaining Zenitsu’s behavior in the first episode of part four, one viewer remarked: “You don’t understand that Zenitsu is a social outcast and only interacts with his friends in the context of a major battle?”
“The final part will definitely change my perspective on him,” said another fan regarding this controversial character.
This isn’t the first time Zenitsu has left anime fans feeling conflicted about Demon Slayer. Previously, he received a lot of backlash for his overly dramatic antics, often being loud and excessively flirtatious with women.
However, despite all this, he continues to be one of the most beloved characters in Demon Slayer. In the first popularity poll for the series, he secured the second position, just behind Tanjiro. In the second poll, he even surpassed the main character to become the most popular character in the Demon Slayer manga.
