Despicable Me 4: What to Expect from the Latest Installment

The story of Despicable Me 4 continues the adventures of Gru in his battle against super villains around the world, with the help of his wife Lucy and their daughters. This installment will showcase Gru’s evolution from a villain to a hero, as he confronts the consequences of his past actions. Importantly, Gru will also have a family of his own to love and care for.

The recently released trailer introduces a joyful scene set in Gru’s home, where the Minions are mischievously causing chaos in the backyard while Gru, seemingly a changed man, goes shopping to bring home some treats for his family. The trailer also reveals that Gru’s family has expanded, as they now have a new member – a baby boy, in addition to their three daughters.
However, the father-son bond does not seem as “intimate” as it could be, with the baby often being left to Lucy’s care, while Gru appears detached, only referring to the baby as “baba.” The calm and happy moments do not last long, as an ominous figure appears at the door, bringing alarming news: the Gru family is about to face danger.

As the story unfolds, the sound of chaos is heard in the background as a giant robot wreaks havoc in the city. The mastermind behind this chaos is none other than the notorious villain Maxim Le Mal, who is determined to bring Gru to his knees. To ensure his family’s safety, Gru must take them to a secure location. But they cannot just hide away; Gru and his family must devise a plan to confront this new threat.
The stakes are high for Gru and Lucy as they divide their responsibilities between the two of them. Only Gru and the youngest daughter are permitted to enter a secret room, while the two older daughters sneak out to gather supplies for the family. The end of the trailer is filled with thrilling action sequences that are both engaging and spectacular.
Gru’s professional life as a villain seems to be far behind him, yet with the help of the Minions, every move is still unpredictable. How will the family navigate the challenges to protect each other and safeguard the world from this new evil?

Despicable Me 4 will once again be directed by Chris Renaud, who previously helmed Despicable Me 1, Despicable Me 2, and The Lorax. The screenplay is written by Mike White (The White Lotus), and as with all Illumination films, Chris Meledandri continues to oversee production.
Steve Carell (The Office) will reprise his role as the voice of Gru, and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) returns as Lucy Wilde. Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) will again voice Margo, Gru’s eldest daughter, while Steve Coogan (Philomena) lends his voice to Silas Ramsbottom. Fans of Despicable Me 4 can expect to hear the iconic antics of the Minions, once again voiced by Pierre Coffin.
