Bonney: A New Member of the Straw Hat Pirates?
Since the beginning of the journey about Luffy becoming the Pirate King, it has been clear that Luffy aims to have a crew of 10 members. As of now, there are 9 members in his crew, with the 10th position still open and many contenders vying for it. Potential candidates include Yamato, Momonosuke, Kin’emon, and Vivi. However, seriously speaking, if there is anyone suitable for this position, it would undoubtedly be Bonney.
Bonney’s life has not been easy. Since childhood, she has been afflicted by the sapphire disease and her life has never been peaceful. She even struggles to enjoy a single ray of sunshine. After recovering, Bonney decided to become a pirate in her youth in order to search for her father. After numerous hardships, Bonney finally reunited with her father, Kuma, on Egghead Island, thanks to the strength of Vegapunk, who has made the entire situation come to light. At this point, she has learned everything about her father and is determined to make things better. However, Bonney’s life is still far from peaceful, and it seems that she has many more challenges ahead before she can officially join the Straw Hat crew.
Oda Hints at Bonney Joining the Crew
In chapter 1108 of One Piece, Oda officially revealed that Bonney will join the Straw Hat Pirates, whether she wants to or not. She is currently under the watchful eye of the World Government because she has the ability to control the Pacifista created by Vegapunk—someone who does not want her to encounter the robot version of her father. This is likely the reason she is on the government’s radar.
Vegapunk has also made it clear to Luffy that Bonney is in danger and that she has nowhere else to run. He entrusted Bonney’s safety to Luffy, which almost seals her fate as a new member of the crew. Oda has not yet shown Bonney officially boarding the Sunny, but it is clear that this is about to happen. Among those who can potentially join the crew, Bonney seems to be the best choice. Given her strength, resilience, and the promising future she has as a character, she fits perfectly with the style of the Straw Hat Pirates.
