The Rarity of Shiny Pokémon: Ash’s Unique Noctowl

Shiny Pokémon have always been quite rare, with an appearance rate of 1 in 8,000. As a result, they are rarely featured in the anime. The concept of Shiny Pokémon was introduced in the Johto region, which was the latest expansion for the Pokémon Gold and Silver games. Thus, incorporating this creative element into the anime is entirely fitting, especially through Ash’s character.
Ash’s Shiny Noctowl has a notably smaller appearance compared to ordinary Noctowl, adding to its unique charm.

Besides this unique Noctowl, Ash has also captured several other rare Pokémon. For instance, Ash encountered Meltan in Alola, a mythical creature that evolved into Melmetal, as previously mentioned. This Pokémon has not been associated with Ash for long. Other notable Pokémon include Poipole and Dusk Lycanroc, which are also classified as rare but are not categorized as mythical or legendary. Ash even had the chance to capture Latias during a battle, but he has never successfully captured a legendary Pokémon.
Interestingly, despite Ash’s lack of capturing legendary Pokémon, his fellow trainers have had more luck in this area. For example, Goh managed to catch Suicune.
As Ash’s journey comes to a close, although he has yet to capture a legendary Pokémon, he has amassed a collection of rarer Pokémon, with Shiny Noctowl being among the rarest. This situation serves as a reminder that rarity can sometimes be found in unexpected places that we least anticipate.
