Celebrating Dragon Ball
The Dragon Ball exhibition was launched in August 2021 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball, which will take place in November 2024. This is the fifth installment of the series: according to Dragon Ball Wiki, Akutami has opened up about his new connection with Dragon Ball. Notably, during his time as a budding artist, he often stayed up late in a bar just to have the chance to read the Dragon Ball volumes that were available. Anyone would be surprised to know that 25 years later, he is involved in such a significant project.
Every month, a different artist appears to leave their mark on the covers of the Dragon Ball Tankoban volumes, a special edition that debuted in 2009. Looking back, the list of those who have contributed is quite astonishing. Notable artists include Masashi Kishimoto from Naruto/Boruto, Koyoharu Gotouge from Demon Slayer, Tatsuya Endo from Spy x Family, and Hirohiko Araki from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
For those who love action-packed manga, Akutami’s involvement is especially noteworthy. He and Akira Toriyama are considered masters of their craft, both known for their unique styles in depicting battles and the emotions of their characters. Even without the cover design, the comparison between their works has become a topic of discussion among dedicated fans.
