What “trends” Will Appear in Tao Quan 2024?
As is customary every year, Tao Quan – Year-End Gathering will become a spiritual culinary highlight on television during the Lunar New Year Eve. According to VTV’s confirmation, viewers will once again meet the Tao spirits of the Year of the Wood Dragon, Giáp Thìn.
The audience will be treated to unique performances from this year’s Tao spirits, alongside poignant reflections that delve into the “trends” that have shaped social discourse, prompting viewers to reflect on 2023.
In 2023, many keyword trends emerged in the digital space, notably the phrase “correct recognition, incorrect correction” from artist Trương Thế Hưng, who faced legal action for falsifying ownership of assets. This phrase has been widely echoed by numerous TikTokers, creating a lasting buzz online.

The “Flex” trend has gained significant traction in Vietnamese social media for an extended period. It has been used to describe individuals showcasing their remarkable achievements with a sense of pride. Moreover, the “Flex until the last minute” group has amassed over a million members, attracting many famous individuals, with the aim of promoting a positive, non-judgmental environment.
Additionally, “flex” has also taken on meanings in sports terminology: “check VAR” represents the idea of verifying information about someone who is “flexing.” Alongside that, there’s the term “pressing” – applying pressure to the opponent or “escaping pressing” – collaborating with someone to alleviate that pressure.
Rapper Thái VG used the phrase “over hap” (very hap) to comment on the performance of contestants in the Rap Vietnam show, which also sparked trends. The term “à lôi” originated from rapper Double2T’s rap lyrics and was frequently used throughout 2023. In Western slang, “à lôi” conveys a sense of exclamation or surprise.
Other notable phrases such as “elm” (referring to younger individuals) and “there are many things left unsaid” have also emerged in social media discourse. These trend-setting phrases are expected to feature prominently in this year’s Tao Quan.
In the year-end gathering – Tao Quan 2023, trending phrases like “fake coconut water,” “be careful,” and “river fish” will be interspersed in the dialogues of the Tao spirits. However, despite the program’s inherent flexibility, it must remain cohesive enough to avoid harsh criticism, ensuring an entertaining atmosphere.
Information on Participating Artists
Details about the participating artists and the format for Tao Quan 2024 have not yet been released by the Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC).
Recently, People’s Artist Tự Long drew attention by posting a picture of two “Tao” spirits, Vân Dung and Artist Minh Hằng, with the caption: “These two Tao spirits are tough.” When fans expressed excitement about the upcoming gathering of the Tao spirits, Tự Long replied cryptically: “This year, they won’t be meeting again.” This response left fans puzzled and concerned.

Previously, there were numerous rumors about familiar artists returning, aside from Artist Quốc Khánh. The role of Bắc Đẩu this year is speculated to be played by actor Thái Sơn, who is well-liked by audiences for his charming and witty performances. According to netizens, if it’s not People’s Artist Công Lý (who is unable to participate due to health issues), the role will likely be filled by Thái Sơn.
Tao Quan is a non-commercial program, and the producers have warned viewers to be cautious of inaccurate information and ticket sales at varying prices.
