Former LPL Star Shares Thoughts After Harsh Penalties Affecting the Tournament
In the realm of professional esports, particularly in League of Legends (LoL), harsh penalties have sparked significant discussion. Recently, LPL (League of Legends Pro League) has been no stranger to serious sanctions, with many of these penalties serving as endless content for the media and the community alike. However, dismissing the impact of these sanctions on the players would be a grave mistake. Leyan, a former star player of the LPL, has shared his personal experiences regarding these recent penalties.

According to Leyan, the former LPL star, the timing of these penalties coincided with the Lunar New Year. This player returned home with only 9,000 CNY (approximately 31 million VND) after the tournament. The penalties he faced during the competitive period played a significant role in this outcome.
Leyan stated, “At one point, I was regarded as the main talent for the entire LPL management team. Back then, I was only receiving a two-month salary for a year. I was penalized for a bug, received a three-month salary suspension for arguing with a viewer during a livestream, and got a one-month penalty for not participating in training. The 9,000 CNY is what I had left after two years of being a professional player.”

In reality, Leyan himself has not been free from controversy. He has been involved in several dramas, often noted for inappropriate behavior during livestreams or exploiting game bugs to rank up.

Not Just Leyan, Many LPL Superstars Have Also Faced Severe Penalties
Before Leyan, renowned LPL stars like Uzi, TheShy, and JackeyLove have also been subjected to penalties within the league. It is undeniable that many of these sanctions stem from significant issues within the competitive scene. For instance, Uzi was once penalized for bringing inappropriate items to the tournament venue, and Tian faced consequences for unsportsmanlike conduct during matches.

However, an underlying issue persists; while the LPL does impose significant penalties, this region has gained notoriety for its rigorous ranking system—one of the most demanding in professional esports. Therefore, it is essential for the LPL organizers and Riot to establish more appropriate and effective penalty systems in the future.
