The New Name Revitalizes the Horror Genre

Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Get Out, and Halloween are just a few of the renowned titles from Blumhouse over the past two decades. Founded just over 20 years ago, the company has produced a multitude of high-quality horror films with modest budgets, usually ranging from $1 to $10 million, significantly lower than the production costs of a typical Hollywood blockbuster. This allows Blumhouse to take risks with serious films while still being able to turn a profit even when box office revenues are underwhelming.
Many of Blumhouse’s works have received critical acclaim, with some even winning awards from major film organizations. In the 2010s, Blumhouse’s presence contributed to the revitalization of the horror genre that had been declining. Innovative ideas like those in Paranormal Activity, the expanding universe of Insidious, and the effective jump scares of Happy Death Day or the psychological elements in Get Out have set new benchmarks.
Blumhouse’s unique success has had a significant impact on Hollywood. The company has proven that it can produce high-quality films while being profitable with very low budgets. It can be said that this model has become a “blueprint” that inspires filmmakers to experiment with new ideas, while simultaneously revitalizing the horror genre and pulling audiences back into theaters.
