If you are a fan of Disney animated films, you may have noticed that the studios love to “challenge” their audience by hiding various Easter eggs (also known as “hidden references”) in random scenes throughout their movies.
Typically, these Easter eggs are subtle allusions to one or more events or characters from other famous animated films from the same studio. With the goal of transforming their works into an engaging adventure that brings something new to viewers, these details are cleverly embedded and may even go unnoticed by those who watch the film multiple times.
1. “Guests” in Frozen
Before the accident that injured Anna occurred, Elsa often used her magic to play with her sister. In the scene where Elsa creates snow figures, she includes several classic characters from Disney, such as Dumbo the elephant, Baymax, the White Rabbit, and Prince Charming.
2. The city of San Fransokyo in Zootopia
Zootopia is a film that many fans adore, particularly for its depiction of a world filled with anthropomorphic animals. However, few people may have noticed that in Chief Bogo’s office, there’s a map featuring the city of San Fransokyo, a fictional blend of San Francisco and Tokyo from Big Hero 6.
3. Disney princess symbols in Tangled
The animation studios behind Tangled also included hidden Easter eggs for fans of Disney princesses. At one point, while Rapunzel is locked in the tower, she has been seen drawing a mural that contains allusions to other Disney princesses, such as a pumpkin that references Cinderella, a glass slipper symbolizing Snow White, a rose for Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and a fork that calls back to Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
4. Mulan in Lilo & Stitch
Few people know that Chris Sanders, the director of Mulan, is also the director of Lilo & Stitch. This is why Mulan appears twice in Lilo & Stitch. The first time is on a poster in Nani’s room, and the second is on a restaurant sign named Mulan Wok.
5. Olaf the snowman in Moana
Although he doesn’t appear as a character in Moana, there’s a subtle detail that references Olaf, the cheerful snowman. In one scene where Moana decides to leave the island, she searches for essential items to take on her boat, including a coconut that resembles Olaf’s head and a tree that mimics Olaf’s arms from Frozen.
6. Ralph Breaks the Internet
Although the film Ralph is known for its multiple hidden Easter eggs, few people notice that in Ralph, there’s a magazine cover featuring Cass Hamada, the sister of the main character Hiro Hamada from Big Hero 6.
