Sina reported on July 10 that the film director of Journey to the West, Vu Duy Minh, held a meeting with various actors who participated in the film in Tongzhou, China. According to the report, Vu Duy Minh remains the assistant director of the production company Vượng Sừng Thu and is also the husband of director Dương Khiết. Currently, Vu Duy Minh is working on connecting veteran actors and supporting actors in Journey to the West to compile a book, sharing memories from their participation in the project.
According to Sina, Journey to the West was first filmed in 1982, with many scenes shot at various locations across China, and even in Thailand and Malaysia. Besides the main cast, many renowned actors from the provinces and cities have also participated to provide support.
As a result, many actors participating in Journey to the West have been unable to maintain contact with the film crew, and their lives have scattered across China. This time, Vu Duy Minh met with the actors at the famous Su Shi Temple in Tongzhou, which served as a backdrop for filming two episodes of Women of the Nation and To Love the Water of Okie. Notably, actors Chu Dao, Hà Huệ Cầm, Hoàng Kính Hi, and Trương Văn Thanh were among those who participated in these two episodes.
Chu Dao shared that when filming, she was only 20 years old and a third-year student. Director Dương Khiết required actors to express the psychology of their characters as if they had never seen the world. Chu Dao still recalls the joy and excitement she felt during the filming. Currently, she works as a foreign language teacher in Tongzhou.
Hà Huệ Cầm also played a supporting role in To Love the Water of Okie. Her husband, Hoàng Kính Hi, also took on a supporting role in Journey to the West and served as a technical supervisor for the crew for two years. The couple has shared many memorable photographs together with the main actors of the crew. Hoàng Kính Hi mentioned that director Dương Khiết was a strict person who always required everyone to be proactive during filming.
According to Sina, after 41 years, many actors who participated in Journey to the West have either passed away or faded from public view, resulting in difficulties in contacting and meeting up. Nonetheless, production director Vu Duy Minh still wishes to compile a book documenting the memories and contributions of the actors throughout the creation of this classic work, Journey to the West.
