Just over three weeks after the Lunar New Year, the box office performance of Vietnamese films during this holiday season has been notably affected, particularly in light of the release of Captain America: The New World Order. The main reason for this trend is the simultaneous release of three blockbuster films, with the most talked-about being Captain America: The New World Order.
As soon as it premiered, Captain America: The New World Order quickly dominated the Vietnamese box office, overtaking all local films to claim the top spot. By 2 PM on February 14, just one day after its release, the film had already grossed nearly $700,000, bringing its total revenue in Vietnam to approximately $840,000 (including early ticket sales for the following days). Currently, the revenue for Captain America is significantly higher than the second-place film, Nu Hon Bac Tu, and the gap is considerable compared to Bo Tu Bao Thu by Tran Thanh.

Captain America: The New World Order is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which explains its overwhelming success at the box office worldwide, including in Vietnam. The fact that it ranks first in box office revenue in our country on its opening day is even more impressive considering the fierce competition from Vietnamese films released during the Tet holiday. Recently, foreign films in Vietnam have shown mixed results, and many local productions have struggled to resonate with audiences.

The box office frenzy has caused quite a stir on social media, but the reality is that even before its release in Vietnam, Captain America: The New World Order had already sparked intense debates due to its relatively low scores and mixed reviews from critics. Currently, the film has received some of the first reviews on Vietnamese social media and continues to provoke discussions about its quality. As the title suggests, in Captain America: The New World Order, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has passed the mantle of the super soldier shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who officially becomes Captain America while upholding justice.

Fans have been divided over the appearance of the lead actor, Anthony Mackie. Some praise him for bringing a fresh take on Captain America, while others feel he pales in comparison to Chris Evans, creating a significant gap in the iconic portrayal of the character. Despite the controversy, the film has received a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 52% positive reviews from critics, placing it among the bottom three films rated the lowest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This has contributed to the discussions surrounding its reception in Vietnam, where audiences are particularly discerning.
