Tencent Enters the Game Market with New Title “Tides of Annihilation”
Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, Tencent is continuing to strengthen its foothold in the gaming industry with a new project titled Tides of Annihilation. This is a AAA RPG developed by Eclipse Glow Games, a company backed by Tencent, utilizing the Unreal Engine 5 platform, and is intended for PC and console, with no mobile version announced yet.

Tides of Annihilation is set against the backdrop of London, which has been invaded by an extraterrestrial force. Players will assume the role of the main character, Gwendolyn, who possesses the unique ability to summon legendary Knights of the Round Table. Gwendolyn’s journey will involve rescuing her sister and uncovering secrets about her own identity, moving between real-world London and a mythical medieval realm.
Despite Not Yet Released, Tencent is Already Facing “Imitation” Claims
However, the gaming community has expressed mixed opinions regarding Tides of Annihilation. Some players believe that the gameplay bears similarities to that of Elden Ring and Devil May Cry, while others have praised the game for moving away from the typical hack-and-slash genre often seen in previous Chinese titles.

From the early visuals, it appears that Tides of Annihilation will adopt a dark and atmospheric art style, reminiscent of the acclaimed Dark Souls series. The combat system seems to draw inspiration from Devil May Cry, featuring aerial combos, while the summoning mechanics may echo elements from Chaos Legion. Though set in a Western environment, the game still incorporates aspects of Chinese culture, notably featuring Guan Yu, a historical figure, appearing in the trailer.

Therefore, it is understandable why many gamers find Tides of Annihilation to be familiar territory. Currently, discussions surrounding this game title are trending across major gaming forums and social media platforms.

It is evident that Tencent is establishing unique niches for its two major game projects. While Black Myth: Wukong focuses on Chinese mythology (Journey to the West), Tides of Annihilation targets a Western audience (the legend of King Arthur). Regardless of its direction, this title is poised to be an AAA blockbuster that many are eagerly anticipating in 2025.
