35 Million of a Gamer Lost Due to Hacked Account?
According to Sohu, a recent report revealed that a Chinese gamer named He Chong lost 1.36 million yuan (approximately 35 million Vietnamese dong) in World of Warcraft Classic due to a hacked account. This significant amount was accumulated over several years, with the in-game currency being valued at around 10,000 Renminbi.

Immediately after the incident, He Chong reported the matter to customer support and provided detailed information regarding the time and location of the hack. However, the initial investigation did not reveal any unusual signs, and the game publisher suggested that it may be difficult for the gamer to retrieve the lost amount at this time.
Netizens React to the Gamer’s Incident
Not accepting the response from customer support, He Chong continued to provide additional information and persistently sought assistance. Furthermore, the gamer even hosted a video stream to engage the community’s attention.

In response to He Chong’s situation and the pressure from the gaming community, the team behind World of Warcraft Classic eventually provided a solution, allowing the gamer to recover approximately 65% of the lost funds. He Chong also expressed his gratitude for the support from the community, explaining that the loss was primarily due to the high liquidity of the in-game currency, which is difficult to control when being hacked.

Nonetheless, the underlying cause of the account hack remains somewhat of a mystery. It is possible that a virus infiltrated He Chong’s computer, or perhaps he fell victim to phishing attempts by clicking on a malicious link. In summary, this incident serves as a significant warning for the entire gaming community, emphasizing the importance of securing accounts and routinely implementing appropriate verification measures.
