The 1986 Film Journey to the West Features Six Actors as the Monk Tang
The classic 1986 adaptation of Journey to the West features a total of six actors portraying the character of Tang Seng, including three experienced actors and three young talents. In Episode 4, titled Imprisoned at Ngũ Hành Sơn, several scenes highlight the departure of the Monk Tang, with the character played by actor Vương Lợi. The portrayal of the Monk Tang by Vương Khiết is notable, as his appearance bears a striking resemblance to the character’s traditional image.
Despite only appearing in a few scenes, this young actor captivates viewers with his innocent expressions, bright eyes, and charming demeanor.

Although he was a child actor, Vương Lợi underwent a significant transformation as he matured. Many people believe he has drastically changed in appearance compared to his role as the Monk Tang. His youthful face has given way to a more mature look, with a distinct jawline and slightly drooping eyelids.
Many Find It Hard to Believe Vương Lợi is the Same Monk Tang from Episode 4 of Imprisoned at Ngũ Hành Sơn

Despite not being “a success story” in terms of appearances, Vương Lợi has thrived in his career, becoming a wealthy and influential figure in the showbiz industry. After completing his studies, he joined the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in China, one of the top institutions for music education.
After graduating, Vương Lợi transitioned into music production, establishing himself as a notable music producer. He has worked on albums for many famous stars in China and South Korea, including Triệu Vy, Quang Lương, Rain, BoA, Han Hong, and DBSK. Additionally, Vương Lợi has contributed articles and reviews to several music magazines and has served as a judge on various game shows.

According to Chinese media, Vương Lợi founded NetEase Music and developed the company into a premier platform for music distribution. Later, he was invited by Baidu Music to serve as the Chief Executive Officer.
In 2016, Vương Lợi took charge of Baidu and was later invited by Tencent Music Entertainment Group to manage the company before it went public.
Regarding his personal life and family, Vương Lợi maintains a very private profile. The media has largely refrained from probing into his personal life. One of the few personal incidents that became public knowledge was in 2013 when he faced a difficult situation after being involved in a scandal with a singer sharing the same name, which complicated his career due to the involvement with alcohol.
