GAM’s Defeat Against TSW Highlights Weak Points of the Team
Recently, in a match against Team SecretWhales, the reigning champion of the VCS – GAM Esports continued to face defeat. Notably, in both matches of the “VCS Battle” featuring representatives from the Vietnamese League of Legends circuit, GAM ended with a score of 0-2. In both games, the yellow and black team showcased an unexpectedly poor performance, including in critical roles like Levi, Kiaya, and Artemis.

According to many VCS viewers, GAM’s defeat was not particularly surprising, as the underlying reasons remained the same: an over-reliance on Kiaya and Levi. During the matches, this duo struggled to shine (due to the opposing team’s significant pressure or being caught off guard), prompting GAM to quickly revert to a defensive strategy. Indeed, GAM seemed ready to “sacrifice” other players to support Kiaya and Levi in making optimal choices.

Additionally, Aress – a player familiar with the Xayah role – had to adapt to tanky champions or play styles that did not suit his strengths. Likewise, Artemis had to concede many resources to Kiaya in order to conserve his own materials. Moreover, GAM also had some puzzling decisions.
For instance, in the second match against TSW recently, GAM selected a composition that leaned towards “Japanese style.” However, Zeri was not effective in engagements without items. During the mid-game phase, GAM nearly seemed to lack aggression, facing a Xin Zhao who could suppress their damage output, leading GAM into fights that felt futile.

GAM May Continue to “Struggle” with Current Play Styles
Kiaya remains the best top laner in VCS today, and with Levi’s experience, a change is not necessarily needed. However, both players are still under pressure, and mistakes can lead to significant consequences. The crucial point is that GAM is not yet ready to change their play style.

Thus, GAM’s “losses” are simply a complicated affair. Of course, it could be due to the matches being of a “throwing” nature, so GAM does not place too much importance on results. However, it is clear that if they continue to rely heavily on the current play style revolving around Kiaya and Levi, GAM’s chances of “paying the price” when entering playoffs are very high, especially when they no longer have the chance to rectify their mistakes.
