In a recent interview, Ma Dong-seok shared that he started his career as a martial arts instructor in middle school. The actor had worked part-time to support himself while attending middle school. However, he faced an accident while delivering goods, which led to a serious injury that could have ended his career as a martial artist.

After becoming an actor, he encountered another severe accident during an overseas filming. The building he was working in collapsed, causing him to fall from a height of 6 meters to the ground. The incident resulted in numerous fractures in his ribs, leg bones, and ankle, while also causing him to suffer from severe paralysis in his lower body.
Ma Dong-seok explained that the severe injury had left him dealing with nerve damage and caused him significant anxiety. The anxiety attacks began to surface during filming, which disrupted the shooting process. Additionally, he faced considerable difficulties traveling by airplane.
