The latest installment of the animated film series, Doraemon: Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky, showcases the strong elements of the beloved cat character, while also introducing fresh “family” dynamics to create a film that is both relatable and new for viewers.
Exciting New Details

While the film is technically titled Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky, it distinctly deviates from the famous Nobita and the National Super Power on the Clouds. In reality, this film features entirely different content compared to the previous Doraemon films.
According to details in the special edition of the Perfect Manga Book provided at schools (including in Vietnam) when purchasing tickets, the content of this film is inspired by four short stories from the famous manga by Fujiko F Fujio, including Battle in the Sky, The Last Drop, Heavenly Tranquility, and The Ultimate Time Machine. The screenwriter, renowned for his work, Kosawa Ryota, skillfully weaves these details into a new narrative that is both entertaining and meaningful.

If Heavenly Tranquility establishes a common concept for the entire film series—a tranquil world floating among the clouds—then The Ultimate Time Machine brings forth the idea of a “time-traveling aircraft,” allowing Nobita’s team to don pilot uniforms and engage in thrilling “airplane battles” that are charming and engaging on screen.

Besides the beautifully crafted paradise of Paradapia making its first appearance, the time-traveling Zeppelin aircraft is also one of the highlights of the film. This is a flying machine with the ability to move through time and space. Users (i.e., the Doraemon team) only need to set the time and desired destination, and they can travel into the time stream to arrive at their chosen location. This flying machine has captivated many fans of Doraemon in this latest installment, as it presents the concept of time travel in a way not previously seen.

In addition to the new elements of Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky, one cannot forget the introduction of the new character, a cat named Sonya. Many audiences affectionately refer to Sonya as “the most handsome mechanical cat on screen,” with a unique appearance that is both charming and striking. Compared to other special characters that appear in previous films, Sonya leaves a deep impression on viewers with a clear psychological profile and an engaging character development. The new film also explores the relationship between the two mechanical cats, Doraemon and Sonya, in a unique way—something rarely seen in previous films.
High-Quality Animation Production
One of the most praised aspects of Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky is the quality of its animation. Each year, the animation quality of the films continues to improve, and in this 42nd installment, viewers can witness a significant leap in the visual aspects of the film.

From the first images released, the adorable designs of characters like Nobita and Shizuka have received much praise from audiences. The character design team has successfully created new “pilot outfits,” helping the Doraemon team “break out” of their usual appearances that have become iconic. Alongside the charming pilot uniforms, the Doraemon team has forged a strong bond with the fans.
Additionally, the emotional expressions of the characters in Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky are also a significant highlight. Notably, Doraemon’s mechanical cats in this film exhibit a wide range of emotional expressions, from playful to heartwarming as they interact with Nobita, alongside poignant moments that resonate deeply when interacting with Sonya.

Moreover, the film’s backdrop is meticulously crafted to enhance the viewing experience. Two prominent scenes in the film feature the Nobita team “soaring” in the sky and engaging in crafting airplanes, as well as when they travel to Paradapia. The expansive, vibrant, and visually stunning natural landscapes presented before the audience create a truly immersive experience. Notably, the world of Paradapia perfectly embodies “a homeland of dreams” with creative details that captivate both young and adult audiences alike.
Meaningful Themes
True to the spirit of the Doraemon series, the thematic elements of friendship, emotional connections, and the significance of being oneself are conveyed through Nobita and the Land of the Ideal on the Sky this year. The 42nd installment presents an even richer experience for viewers.

The friendship between Doraemon and Nobita remains the shining focal point of the series. The “adventures” of both characters in this latest film add even more depth to their relationship, making it more genuine and endearing than ever before. The series has consistently embraced the desires of Nobita’s close friends while depicting the little boy’s innocent admiration for Doraemon in a heartfelt manner.
