As previously announced, The Idol – the most controversial TV series currently – officially wrapped up with episode 5, airing on July 2nd.
One of the main attractions is the character Dyanne, portrayed by Jennie, which has garnered significant interest.
In episode 4, Dyanne nearly reached her dream of becoming a star, replacing Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) as the main singer and was ready to release her solo song.
However, in the final episode, Dyanne must confront the harsh realities of fame that feel like merely a dream.
The show’s executive producer, Nikki (Jane Adams), called a meeting. Initially, the conversation was filled with compliments like “you have wings,” but later, Nikki revealed some legal issues surrounding the song and its author, causing Dyanne’s public debut to be postponed.
Nikki’s comments are beneficial for Dyanne, hinting that she might write her own music based on her past experiences. The female director also emphasized transforming Dyanne into a star overnight.
Despite the promising dialogue, emotions still reflected on Dyanne’s face, indicating that “no day is ever guaranteed.” She was also clearly aware of who was pushing her into this ambiguous situation.
“It’s Jocelyn, isn’t it?” Dyanne replied just before the elevator doors closed, illustrating that the once-famous figure was no longer in the spotlight.
In the final episode, Jennie only appears for a little over 1 minute. However, her brief appearance left viewers with many emotional moments.
A significant portion of the online community expressed dissatisfaction with Dyanne’s conclusion. Some opinions suggest that the character played by Jennie was underutilized, despite being significant. The filmmakers built Dyanne as a central character but only allowed Jocelyn to appear briefly.
While creating a stark contrast, some creative individuals allowed Jocelyn to freely engage with Tedros (The Weeknd) while Dyanne remained a victim of manipulation.
However, many viewers commented on Dyanne’s character resolution as being less compelling, reflecting the reality of the entertainment industry.
According to online analyses, sometimes, despite possessing potential, not everything unfolds as planned due to unforeseen circumstances.
Many even speculated about Jennie’s career under YG Entertainment.
“Just like YG handles Jennie outside of reality. Surely before her debut, they prepared her well, but now she only has one solo song and another piece that hasn’t been officially released,” one netizen tweeted.
In the end, viewers seem to have mixed feelings because, ultimately, Jennie has stepped away from the film industry.

Currently, HBO has not confirmed the production of season 2 of The Idol. The chances for Dyanne to reappear remain quite uncertain due to the intense controversies surrounding the show that make a continuation hard to envision.
