The Final Saga is the most crucial part of One Piece, and it is clear that Oda intends to transform it into the ultimate segment, as he has stated numerous times in the past. Therefore, the biggest and boldest revelations will be presented in this saga, and fans are surely prepared for what is to come.
When mentioning Buggy, Oda seems to be hiding a significant mystery concerning this character. The author often uses him for comedic purposes in the story, but Buggy is more than just a clown. The true value of Buggy will shine through in the latter part of the story, where new revelations about him, including his connections to Roger, will be unveiled, clarifying his identity for fans.
Why is Buggy’s true identity being concealed?

Buggy is the first major challenge Luffy encounters on his journey to become the Pirate King. In fact, he even has ties to Shanks, as both were part of the crew on the ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.
Buggy became significant in the Impel Down arc, where, by sheer luck, he was recognized as a key player. Later, in the Paramount War arc, Buggy stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Whitebeard, or at least was seen as a figure of interest by many observers.
Subsequently, Buggy also became a Shichibukai. Two years later, when the Shichibukai system was abolished, Buggy was officially titled as the “Emperor of the Sea.” It is evident that the luck of this character continues to play a significant role, as Oda has some grand plans for Buggy in the storyline.
However, the clown often does not pay special attention to the events surrounding him, even though there are hints that suggest Buggy may not be just a simple clown. In fact, even his true name and face could be hidden from the audience.
In 2019, One Piece collaborated with Made in World to release a special Buggy-themed shirt featuring the following motto: “His true name and real face have not yet been revealed, making him a character shrouded in many mysteries.”
This was the first official collaboration that One Piece realized, and this announcement indicated that Buggy is concealing his true identity. However, this is not the only hint. In chapter 1095 of One Piece, the clown was seen with a very peculiar hat that might be significant. Many believe this hat belongs to Buggy, but there are indications that it may not be so. The actual hat of Buggy is obscured, and his true face is hidden, suggesting that Buggy’s real identity is not what the audience perceives.
The intriguing mystery of Buggy and his connection to God Valley

If there is one event that fans should remember regarding characters from around 40 years ago, it is the God Valley incident. The God Valley event took place 38 years ago in the One Piece world, where the Rocks pirates faced a decisive confrontation. Gol D. Roger’s crew was also involved in this event.
One thing that fans should always note is that Buggy and Shanks have always worked together. For a long time, the fans did not believe that Shanks had any connection to the God Valley event, but ultimately, it has been confirmed that he indeed has ties to it.
The Rocks Pirates, including Garling Figarland and his two sons (Shamrock Figarland and Shanks), were present at God Valley. After the fallout at God Valley, it was there that Roger’s crew encountered Shanks, who was still in a treasure chest on the Oro Jackson ship. Shanks was raised on Roger’s ship from that time onwards.
Later, Shanks and Buggy grew up together on the Oro Jackson like brothers. At this time, Shanks was 39 years old, and Buggy was similarly aged. Roger himself stated, “It’s been a long time since we had a kid on the ship, right, Rayleigh?” meaning that there used to be children on board, and those were Shanks and Buggy. So, if Shanks was at God Valley, where was Buggy? The answer lies in God Valley. Just as Shanks was recognized as a crew member, Buggy was also recognized in the same way.
Could Buggy be the son of Rocks D. Xebec?
Before the God Valley incident, the clown was clearly informed that something of great value had been taken from the Rocks pirates, where Rocks D. Xebec’s domain was controlled. To obtain it, the Rocks pirates had to go to war. The exact nature of what was taken is unclear, but it could potentially be a treasure, and along with it, a significant item was also seized.

Rocks arrived at God Valley and was defeated. Garling fought at God Valley and lost Shanks. Shanks was taken away by Roger’s crew, but Buggy was left behind, possibly captured by Garp. To protect his identity and prevent being executed, Garp may have handed Buggy over to Roger, just as Roger handed Ace over to him.
There is a possibility that this is how Buggy was raised alongside Shanks, with his true identity still unknown. Buggy certainly has a D. lineage, and his true name, as well as his real face, have yet to be revealed up to this point. Hopefully, Oda will soon reveal what is to come.
