Some Locations in League of Legends Could “Ride the Wave” if Filmed in Vietnam
Recently, information from Riot Games and Hollywood about collaborating with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam has stirred excitement in the community. According to representatives from Riot, the company plans to conduct filming for an upcoming League of Legends series (likely a continuation of the Arcane series), with the chosen location being Cat Ba, Hai Phong.

Not only is the news exciting because of the involvement of Riot and the government, but the League of Legends community is also speculating about which locations might be recreated in Vietnam as Riot officially gears up for new filming.
For those who may not know, Hai Phong is one of the six major cities in northern Vietnam. It is the third-largest city in the country and serves as an important industrial, coastal city, while also being a center of economy, culture, healthcare, education, science, trade, and technology in the northern coastal region of Vietnam.

Cat Ba Island is located 60km from the center of Hai Phong city by sea, covering an area of 31,150 hectares with 388 islands. In summary, Hai Phong is a vibrant city, rich in natural features such as rivers, mountains, and beaches, along with various islands.
According to many opinions, given its coastal city characteristics, Hai Phong would be incredibly suitable if Riot wants to recreate Bilgewater – the largest coastal city in Runeterra and a hub of various elements in the social structure. Notably, Bilgewater is also known for its mysteries and is home to monstrous beings such as Tahm Kench and Pyke.

However, if the filming location is set in Asia, then Ionia would also be a fitting choice. In Riot’s lore, Ionia is depicted as a land with many Asian features. The mountainous landscapes and rivers in Ionia could be perfectly recreated on Cat Ba Island.

This Could Be the Turning Point for League of Legends in Vietnam
With League of Legends, the game has long attracted significant attention from authorities. Notably, in 2025, the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) will be broadcasted on VTVCab platforms, which will help the game gain more prominence. The latest initiative from Riot could help League of Legends continue to attract attention, while also opening up broader brand awareness in the S-shaped land.
Furthermore, Hollywood and Riot filming here could bring a source of tourism, promoting a positive image for Vietnam and Cat Ba, Hai Phong in particular. Currently, the League of Legends community is eagerly anticipating which iconic name will be recreated in this coastal city.
