One Month After the PirateFi Incident, a Game is Discovered to Contain Malware Banned by Valve from Steam
The game in question is Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution, a title that officially launched and has been discovered to contain malware that could compromise players’ accounts and steal personal data.

According to findings from the Reddit community, Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution does not allow direct downloads on Steam; instead, it directs players to an external website to download the demo.
Currently, this game is categorized among various malicious software that does not display clear warning signs. Several players have analyzed the files linked to this game and discovered that this malware can access administrative privileges, bypass Windows encryption, and collect personal data from the user. What’s concerning is that it often goes undetected by common antivirus programs, allowing many users to become victims without realizing it.

Additionally, some users reported that this malicious file caused Firefox to consume up to 10GB of RAM, leading to severe machine freezes. Currently, Steam has issued a warning on the game’s page and has not confirmed whether Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution is still available on Steam. However, the incident raises significant concerns about Steam’s security system, as this is the second game within two months identified to spread malware.

This serves as a warning to the gaming community about the need for heightened vigilance regarding games released on Steam, to avoid becoming victims of malicious software that may spread through these titles. If you have already downloaded the demo of Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution, it is advisable to immediately delete all related files, change passwords on all significant accounts, especially Steam, email, and bank accounts, and conduct thorough system checks with robust antivirus software.
