Anime One Piece Returns with an Exciting Saga
The anime One Piece is set to resume broadcasting in October 2024, coinciding with its 25th anniversary. The studio has decided to produce the longest arc in the history of the One Piece anime, not only adapting the manga but also enhancing the animated sequences to maintain high quality across almost every episode, starting with the Egghead arc.
The remake of the Fish-Man Island arc has been aired during this transition period. However, the current anime has returned, and many fans are feeling disappointed with Toei’s handling of Sanji. The anime One Piece will release two consecutive episodes on April 5 and 6.
Episode 1123 introduces a new opening theme song that captivates viewers, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Each new episode promises to be fantastic, especially for those eagerly waiting. However, Sanji’s fans are once again left disappointed due to two controversial scenes that sparked debate.
Fans of One Piece have expressed their dissatisfaction regarding Sanji being sidelined to a secondary role, impacting the overall pacing of the episodes. This time, however, fans are also discussing whether the lengthy wait over the past months was justified.
Episode 1123 Alters Key Scenes Featuring Sanji

The scene featuring the character Sphinx and the introduction of York was notably altered from its original presentation in chapter 1086. Nevertheless, Toei completely omitted Sanji from this vital moment, leading to a significant gap in storytelling. While this may not seem like a serious issue to many, the subsequent scene where he appears with a heart-shaped expression upon seeing Bonney has been met with widespread discontent.

Bonney possesses the formidable powers of the Toshi Toshi no Mi fruit, allowing her to alter her own age and that of others, as well as inanimate objects. Consequently, she appears to be an adult despite being only 12 years old. This also explains why the manga has not depicted Sanji’s interactions with Bonney, or even hinted at a heart-shaped reaction when he looks at her.
Sanji’s character arc has always sparked debate among fans, with many suggesting that he has deviated from his earlier self and lacks emotional depth. Although Bonney’s age revelation is heavily discussed within this arc, Oda has been cautious to avoid any inappropriate implications between the two characters. Nonetheless, the altered scenes in the anime clearly deviate from Oda’s original intent, leading many viewers to argue that Sanji’s heart-shaped expression is quite fitting for his character.
Toei Has Worked on the One Piece Anime for Over 25 Years, Garnering Mixed Reviews and Criticism
Apart from the controversy surrounding Sanji, the remaining segments of the episode seem to lack significant points of contention. Moreover, the opening song focusing on Bonney and Kuma provides a glimpse into some of the saddest narratives within this saga.
