Paimon serves as an NPC that introduces the game, while also being the main guide for the Traveler. The two first meet when the Traveler pulls her out of the water. At that time, Paimon humorously mentions that she would have drowned if she hadn’t been rescued. Although Aether and Lumine are the main characters of the game, Paimon is still seen as the iconic representative of Genshin Impact.
As of now, the origins of Paimon in Genshin Impact remain a mystery.

The existence of the child remains an enigma, even though she constantly accompanies the main character and shows concern whenever they are separated, as depicted in the recent Natlan Archon Quest.

The most popular theory suggests that Paimon could be one of the three Moon Sister characters, a detail hinted at by several characters in the game. For instance, when Kazuha first appears in front of the Traveler and Paimon, he remarks on her similarities to the stars, which might relate to a connection between her and celestial entities. Additionally, in the Aranyaka World Quest, an NPC named Arama also refers to Paimon as a celestial being, reminiscent of the moonlight in the sky.
Though nothing has been confirmed, one thing is for sure: Paimon remains one of the biggest mysteries in Genshin Impact. Players will have to wait until the expansive regions of the game are unlocked to potentially discover clearer answers regarding the true identity of the young girl.
